In the United States, 15–20% is standard for sit-down restaurant service; in much of Europe, a service charge is included and a small rounding-up is appreciated; in Japan, tipping is not customary at all. This calculator lets you pick any percentage, so it adapts to wherever you are and whatever level of service you received.

Splitting a bill fairly is where most group dinners get awkward. The calculator divides the total (bill plus tip) evenly across the number of diners you specify — so a $120 bill with 18% tip ($21.60) split four ways comes to $35.40 per person. A 'round up' option lets you round the per-person amount to the nearest dollar or convenient whole number, which is handy when paying cash.
